NEWT DESKTOP Set up

The NEWT Desktop application can be installed on a host computer and used to place and answer phone calls, as well as send messages via the Internet.

To use this desktop application, ensure the host computers are connected to the Internet and provisioned to an active NEWT Business Phone extension. A headset may be needed.

Installing the Application

To begin, download and install the application that works with the operating system on the host computer.

  1. For PC: Copy or download the NEWT Mobile - PC App Installer on the host PC computer. Or https://newtdownload.fibernetics.ca/NEWT-mobile.exe

  2. For MAC: Copy or download the NEWT Mobile - MAC App Installer on the host MAC computer. (https://newtdownload.fibernetics.ca/NEWT-mobile.dmg)

    Important: On a Mac computer, copy the application icon to the Applications folder.

  3. Open the installer and follow the instructions on the dialogue window to install the application.

Signing into the Application

To start using the application for the first time, sign into the application with the account credentials provided by NEWT. Please contact your administrator or newtsupport@fibernetics.ca if you have not been provided with your credentials.

  1. Open the application.

  2. A window prompts the user to sign in.

  3. Fill in the Username and Password fields.

  4. Select the Sign In button.

  5. Read and accept the NEWT EULA.

  6. Click Next for user default settings. The application will now be launched. Note: Please go to Settings to complete set up options once in the application.

Settings Window

The Gear Icon will take you to settings. The Settings window has a left navigation menu. When one of the settings from the left navigation menu is selected, more details or the current settings are displayed on the right pane. Select the X icon to close this window.

  1. Select Notification from the Settings navigation menu to select the sound to play for an incoming call or message.

  2. Select Sound from the Settings navigation menu to configure audio devices and media settings.

  3. Select Recording from the Settings navigation menu to configure the call recording settings. Note this feature applies to the desktop app only, and will NOT affect your PBX extension recordings settings on the PBX.

  4. Select Controls from the Settings navigation menu to configure call settings using this application such as default phone, launch at login, always on top, call alerts.
